In 1961 the Liba Liba fleet launched the first of 30 craft designed and built by Ian Showell. In 2007 the fleet now consists of 14 upgraded hire houseboats. Since those early days, hire houseboats have become a very popular form of family holiday and there are now over 200 craft plying the river from Goolwa to Mildura in Victoria.
In November 2006 Liba Liba Houseboat company was sold and taken over by new owner/managers, Carissa & Greg Austin. Since then Liba Liba’s have been given a ‘facelift’ on the exterior, freshening them up for a new era in the Liba Liba history book!
The generators on Liba Liba Houseboats use approximately 1 – 1.5 lts per hour.
Liba Liba Houseboats travel approximately 4 miles per hour & use 1.5 – 2lts of fuel per river mile in normal river conditions .
Yes you can use a hair dryer and other electrical 240w appliances when running the generator.
If you run out of supplies we deliver to the 386 mile mark below Lock 6 on Wednesdays between 2-4pm, orders need to be called in by 2-way radio before 10.30am on this day. Delivery is free of charge. Store at 398 with limited selection.
75 lts of drinking water is placed aboard more available on request for longer hires.
Pre-existing dedicated houseboat mooring sites must be used if available, other wise please use larger trees to secure the two front ropes. Back ropes can be secured during high winds & fast water flows.

Customer supplies can be placed aboard the day you start your holiday (foodlist included with final payment advice).
We have a locked car park available – only open office hours.
Yes you can. Dinghy’s with oars (no motors) and boat arms for securing craft to side of houseboat available on request.
Small to medium size dogs allowed on outside of the craft with their own bedding, must be mentioned a the time of making a booking – at managements discretion.
Houseboating is suitable for people of all ages.
Linen supplied includes tea towels/sheets/ pillow cases & pillows/2 blankets per bed/BYO towels or towel hire available.
You are restricted by the lenght of your hire and daylight ( traveling after sunset is not allowed), you can travel up or down stream from the Liba Liba Landing.
We endeavour to have as little impact on the River and be as environmentally friendly as possible.
Not in SA but if your travel into NSW waters and wish to do some fishing you will need a licence these are available from our office.
